I started playing Animal Crossing on the 3DS I bought in Japan in 2015. You couldn't change the language so I was plunged into a community in which I did not speak the language, could not read any notices and was incapable of communicating with my neighbors. It was a heavy-handed metaphor for my waking life. Regardless, I did learn かせき means fossil. And I did understand the one fish pun for the Sweetfish, called "あゆ・Ayu" in Japanese ("Are you A-yu?" it said, in English).
Another uninteresting fact is that, in Japanese, AC is called どうぶつの森・doubutsu no mori, or Animal Forest. And New Horizons is called あつまれ どうぶつの森 or something like Animal Crossing: Gathering and New Leaf is called とびだせ・tobidase or like "Animal Crossing: Pop Out!", which is pretty funny.
In the end, similar to a lot of my media xperiences, I interacted with AC in a very isolated way (positive). I didn't know a single person who played it, so I just did it my own way. In 2020, when everyone downloaded and started playing ACNH, it was wild to me to see everyone getting really competitive with it. To me, that's completely opposite the entire point of animal crossing. But, whatever way you have to enjoy something...
Regardless, here's my little AC shrine.

Under Construction. Currently trying to mold my island into some kind of cute place...
Ah, finally, my Animal Crossing limiters are off... I can do whatever I want (meaning, I create increasingly bizarre tableaus for these poor unsuspecting vacationers). Go ahead and click the pics to zoom in!
